YMCA Summer Odyssey Camp

Summer of Survivor

 

Beginning in June, for 43 days, kids will arrive... they will band together, using their collective wits to carve out a new summer experience...a SUMMER OF SURVIVOR!  Day by day, survivors will form their own "tribes" to learn skills such as outdoor cooking, camping and fishing and participate in "community" challenges and tribal council.  Kids will be "matching WITS, making memories LAST, and learning through PLAY."

YMCA SUMMER ODYSSEY SPECIAL EMPHASIS:

  • Weekly field trips and swimming
  • D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read) literacy enhancement
  • Nature and survival skills (rope/knot tying, compass skills, survival skills, archery, building fires, outdoor cooking, canoeing, fort/tent building)
  • Communication (which may include sign language, Spanish or other foreign language, Morse Code, Smoke Signals, for Decoding Messages)
  • Ultimate Survivor - end of summer event

There are still two summer sites open:  Barfield Elementary and Wilson Elementary

The camp begins June 1, 2004 and runs 10 weeks long.
